What is in it
Ceramides
A barrier-repair product usually earns its result from ceramides. They do not brighten, exfoliate or firm; they restore the structure that lets skin hold water and keep irritants out. If your face has started reacting to things it used to tolerate, that is normally a barrier problem rather than an allergy, and ceramides are the direct answer to it. Niacinamide
Niacinamide earns its place in Korean formulation because it solves several problems at once without conflict. It helps skin hold water, tempers sebum, and interrupts the handover of pigment from the cells that make it to the cells you see. That combination makes it the usual answer for oily skin that also looks uneven. It is stable in the bottle and forgiving in a routine, which is why it appears in toners, serums and creams alike.
Kojic acid
Kojic acid is a by-product of fermentation — it was first isolated from the mould used to make sake — and it inhibits tyrosinase, the enzyme that starts pigment production. That places it in the same family of action as arbutin and vitamin C, and it is frequently paired with them because the combination covers more of the pathway than any one of them alone. It can irritate at higher concentrations, so introduce it gradually.
