Houttuynia cordata — heartleaf — is the calming plant extract Korean brands reach for when the target is redness and reactive skin rather than pigment or lines. It has a long history in traditional East Asian medicine and a modern reputation for settling irritation quickly. Ceramides
Ceramides are lipids your skin already makes, and they are roughly half of what holds the outer barrier together. When that supply runs low — through age, over-exfoliation, harsh cleansing or cold dry air — water escapes and irritants get in. Applying ceramides tops up the mortar between the cells. The effect is unglamorous and important: less tightness, less stinging from products that used to be fine, and skin that stays comfortable through the day.
